Day 1 of our Summer Trip: Rainier National Forest Detour

So we set off on our summer vacation trip and things just seemed to be a little off. Rylan started off the day by falling out of the back of the suburban onto the gravel driveway. This little mishap left him with 2 gashes in the side of his head. After we got him cleaned up and decided he didn't need stitches we very carefully got in the car and set out. Things went fairly smoothly until we were stopped on the road and informed there were 2 hour delays for road construction and told we could detour through Rainier National Forest. We decided to go for it and headed up the windy mountain road. Although it added time to our trip we were able to get out of the car along the way and enjoy snow in August! Very cool I must say.

More vacation pics to come . . .

A Conversation with Bowen (about tasting baby cereal for the first time)

Me: "Hey, Bo!"
Bo: "Yeah, Mom?"

Me: "You ready to try some cereal?"
Bo: "I don't know . . . do you think I will like it?"

Me: "Try it, try it I say!"
Bo: "Ok, bring it on, Mom!"
(Bowen eats cereal with much smacking.)

Bo: "Ooo, that's good! I like it!"

Bo: "Now, I'll try my toes for dessert!"

My Little Weed Eater

Rylan is a hard worker. If Ryan or I give him a job to do outside he works at it with all his might. One of his favorite jobs is cutting the grass.

Since he isn't big enough yet to drive the tractor by himself, Ryan found this weed eater that Rylan is able to use.
It is still a little too big for him, but he somehow manages to heft it up and swing it around.
Don't worry, we make him wear safety goggles when he uses it.

This is one cool kid!! We love you Rylan!

Little House on the Prairie

My friend Tina is starting a new business at her ranch by offering themed birthday parties.

One of the themes she offers is "Little House on the Prairie" and she kicked it off by throwing her daughter, Jansi, a Little House birthday party.

My kids were excited about this because we have recently finished watching some of the 9 seasons of Little House (thank you, Netflix) and they love to pretend play that they are in Walnut Grove and living life as Laura, Mary, and Carrie.

Tina had these cute dresses and bonnets made and watching the kids run around the ranch almost made me think I was there living with the Ingalls.
The girls camped out that night in a tepee and came to church the next morning in their prairie dresses and bonnets.

It was a real fun time!
